MTN Soccer Academy Ghana-Nigeria 2009: two evicted

Caygu Williams of Ghana and Samuel Chibuzor from Nigeria have become the first housemates to be evicted from the 2009 MTN Soccer Academy Ghana-Nigeria reality show. The duo have returned home after becoming the unfortunate victims of Sunday night’s eviction show. “It came as a shock to them. May of the housemates still didn’t realize that eviction time was up and anyone could go home. They were hearing it but they didn’t believe it could be them in particular,” former national team star Ibrahim Sunday, head of the Academy House’s coaching team said at Monday’s press conference to formally announce the impending journey back home by the evictees.

Even in the pain of enduring their eviction at the very first hurdle, Caygu Williams and Samuel Chibuzor in particular were very hilarious disclosing to the press the numerous useful lessons they have imbibed during their stay in the Academy House. “It was a great experience and now I have different standards by which to live for the rest of my life. The coaches taught a lot o f things that I know will make me a good footballer in future. The coaches have inspired me to one day become a coach too,” Chibuzor said among many other revelations. Caygu added: “The whole Academy house unit have been very caring and Coach Sunday has told me I will become a good footballer if I am disciplined and hardworking. I know it is true because the coach knows best.”

OMP boss Ken Ashigbey said the eviction was based on three criteria. These are the evaluation of the coaching team based on player’s discipline and performance in all Academy House activities, second are jurors who observe the housemates while text messages by fans offer the third criterion. Scientific basis is used to average the text message strength in both countries because of the vast difference in population size. He also made it clear that eviction will be based on the above procedures and two teammates from Ghana or Nigeria could be evicted at a go, if that is the verdict.

Housemate number 1 Samuel Chibuzor has dreams to play for Spanish giants FC Barcelona and the Nigeria national team one day. Fellow evictee Caygu Williams, previously Housemate number 9, aims to “of course” play for the Black Stars and English Premier League club Arsenal. As they headed home last Monday however, the two young footballer aspirants both indicated their readiness to start their careers with any club, anywhere. “Every housemate is a winner. The show opens up so many opportunities to the housemates and we know they will not lack offers,” Mr. Ashigbey told Caygu and Chibuzor who went home with a trophy each, undisclosed amount of money and assorted goods from various sponsors.

Twelve housemates now remain in the hunt for the 2009 MTN Soccer Academy crown which comes with it the latest Hyundai Tuscon 4-wheel car for the ultimate winner. Tension has reached fever pitch as the countdown to the next eviction show on Sunday has begun especially in Nigeria, where the show expanded to just this year. MTN Nigeria officials were in Ghana for the entire eviction weekend and the show originally billed to show on Africa Independent Television (AIT) now also shows on Silverbird TV, Galaxy and DBN in that country.
