Ghana FA vice president George Afriyie says the uncertainty over the start of the league put off potentials sponsors.

The Executive and Emergency Committee member also revealed the federation was on the verge of signing a sponsorship but the litigations

The 2016 Ghana Premier League is scheduled to start on Saturday after a long delay without a headline sponsor following Capital Bank’s decision to suspend their relationship with the country’s top-flight.

Afriyie says clubs have themselves to blame for a sponsorless league.

“The truth is that this issue of litigation and wranglings within the clubs and judicial issues is actually affecting sponsorship,” Afriyie told Accra-based radio, Joy FM.

“I can tell you that within last month and the early part of this month, we were in talks with some potential sponsors, but as soon as the Ethics Committee came with their ruling, some of the companies even called to find out whether the scheduled date for commencement of the new season will be possible.

“So the litigations is truly affecting planning for the league and is very difficult convincing corporate bodies to come on board.”
