Leverkusen's Sarpei seeks Ghana return

Germany-based defender Hans Adu Sarpei says he is ready to fight for his place in the Ghana national team after reviving his club career.

The 32-year-old has not played for the Black Stars since falling out with previous coach Sellas Tetteh over team selection.

He has not been called by coach Milovan Rajevac since the Serbian took over last year as he struggled to get playing time at club level.

The Bayer Leverkusen player has now regained his place in the Bundesliga side and he is keen on get his left-back position which is still a problem for Rajevac.

"I have been playing regularly this season so I think after a long time out, this is the right time to get back,” Sarpei told Radio Gold.

“I am in good form so I am ready for another chance."

Sarpei excelled for the Black Stars at the left-back position at the 2008 African Cup of Nations but exited the national team camp after he was left out of a starting line-up when Tetteh was in charge of the opening World Cup qualifiers.

Even though Harrison Afful has played in that position he has not overly impressed Rajevac who say he is still keen on a left-back.

Meanwhile, David Addy of Bechem Chelsea has been noted as a strong contender for the left-back position for the Black Stars.

He was Ghana’s brightest spot during their friendly against Argentina on Wednesday and Rajeavc is said to be considering him for the national team.

Addy was named Ghana’s league best defender last season.
