Dutch-born Ghanaian teenager Leeroy Owusu netted the winning goal for Dutch side Excelsior Rotterdam in their 2-1 triumph over FC Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie on Saturday evening.

Owusu, 19, stunned the home fans at the De Grolsch Veste when he struck the winner just after the hour mark with a sweet finish.

The young defender held on to a Luigi Bruins through ball and displayed great tenacity and resilience to finish off the move with a neat ball to the far corner.

Owusu, born to Ghanaian parents in the Dutch city of Purmerend, spent most his youth career at Ajax Amsterdam. But he was mostly restricted to the second string side where he played regularly in the Dutch second-tier.

But the ambitious lateral defender left Ajax for Excelsior after the end of the season and has enjoyed a precious start to his career at the club.
