"League to carry on as planned"- Abrah-Appiah

Accra, Feb. 16, GNA - Chairman of the Premier League Board, (PLB) Welbeck Abrah-Appiah says the premiership will resume on Wednesday, March 2 despite suggestions to push the date forward after the local Black Stars' exit from the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) which is currently underway in Sudan. The League took a break to accommodate the Stars campaign in the competition, which they exited after three defeats in three games and suggestions are growing on the need to resume play soonest. Abrah-Appiah told GNA Sports on Wednesday in Accra that the March 2 resumption date will not be changed since any such plans could disturb the time table of other competitions such as the FA Cup, Ashgold and Aduana Stars campaign in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions among others.

"The break was to accommodate the Black Stars campaign, the FA Cup calendar, Ashgold and Aduana Stars in the CAF competitions and some friendl= y games for the Black Stars.

"For these reasons, changing the date because the local Black Stars failed to progress at the CHAN will disturb the rest of the programs. In an= y case, how many games can be played between now and the set date." Abrah-Appiah said the League will end as scheduled since the break is well factored into the PLB's plan and there was no cause for alarm. The break was necessitated by the Stars participation at the biannual gathering designed by CAF for locally based players.

The team, coached by Herbert Addo failed to pick a point in a possible nine and placed last in the group to exit the competition Ghana came second in the maiden edition in Cote D'Voire.
