LOC to organize appreciation service for volunteers

Accra, March 11, GNA - The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations will organize appreciation service for volunteers who contributed to the success of the tournament. The service is to reward the volunteers who played a key roles, in the successful organization of the three-week fiesta which ended last month.

Ian Osei Owusu, Coordinator of the Volunteer Programme told GNA Sports that the service to be conducted at all four venues-Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Sekondi would begin at the Sekondi venue on Tuesday, March 11.

He named Chief Inspector Doku, Ashong Naa Morkor, William T. Essilfie, Vivienne Kwao, Daniel Amoako, Dr Tawiah Siameh and Unique Star Foods as individuals and organizations to be rewarded for their excellent delivery during the campaign. Owusu said volunteers would receive tokens and certificates, which would make them unique in their quest for employment in future. "All the database of all these participating volunteers will also be handed over to the National Service Secretariat as part of the legacy for Ghana 2008," he concluded. Tamale will be next on Thursday, March 13, Accra - March 15 and Kumasi - March 18.

About 2000 volunteers assisted in the organization of the 26th MTN Africa Cup of Nations, which saw Egypt winning the ultimate for an unprecedented sixth time.
