LG Top 4 : Hearts 2 Olympics 0

Don Bortey scored both goals for hearts in the first half

March 1 -- Results of the Kotoko-Liberty match at the ongoing LG Soccer Tournament played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Scorer: Isaac Boakye 49th minute.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko produced a steely performance over Liberty Professionals in the LG top four competition in Accra on Saturday. The Porcupine warriors beat the scientific soccer lads by a lone goal.

Isaac Boakye carved some space around the Liberty penalty area, shrugged off two defenders and drilled the shot home from just outside the box. That was in the second half.

Before then, he had posed major threats to the defenders of Liberty professionals and had thrice tested the goalkeeper with some thunderbolts.

Liberty themselves were not out done by the Porcupine warriors. On a day they failed to score in two consecutive games in the LG top four competition, Liberty showed they could be architects of some fine and fluid moves.

Asamoah Gyan and Alfred Nii Larbi often found themselves at the end of these runs but their finishing was sub-standard. Kotoko’s Joe Hendriks in defense was his inspired self and was beaten just once throughout the 90 minutes.

Little wonder therefore that he won the LG man of the match award, the second time in the competition even though Isaac Boakye whose goal won the game for Kotoko looked a strong contender for the award.

Now Kotoko are at the summit of the LG top four league table with six points from two games but they have played one match more than arch-rivals Accra Hearts Of Oak who play against Olympics on Sunday.

If Hearts falters, then Kotoko’s dream of winning the elite four club LG tournament will be close to reality.
