Kuffour urges Appiah to consider more local players

*for Black Stars*

Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Osei Kuffuor has told Pravda Sports 93.5 FM that there are many potential stars playing in the local league who will excel in Coach Kwasi Appiah’s mainstream Black Stars team if given the opportunity.

The widely held view is that these players do not have the required quality and must be relegated to the Local Black Stars team for the upcoming CHAN tournament. But, Emmanuel Osei Kuffuor disagrees with these calls.

“I am hoping that Kwasi Appiah will blend the team with most of our locally based players too. In our league now, you can see that there are a lot of potential players there who can feature in the Black Stars and can play like Asamoah Gyan and the rest. We should give the chance to people like Emmanuel Baffour and Laryea Kingston to prove themselves,” Kuffour stated.

The former Hearts, Kotoko, Ashantigold and Dwarfs superstar added: “We have other players at Berekum Chelsea and Kotoko like Nii Adjei and the rest must be given an opportunity too.”

Kwasi Appiah, who has consistently monitored players in the local league, was at the Len Clay stadium in Obuasi last weekend to watch in the game between AshantiGold and Medeama SC. The national team coach is also billed to travel with dethroned league champions Berekum Chelsea to Cameroon to watch their CAF Champions’ League preliminary second leg against Cotonsport Garoua.
