Kuffour backing Stars for 2012 African Cup

Former Black Stars defender Sammy Kuffour is urging the national team to go for the ultimate at next year’s Cup of African Nations. Kuffour, a veteran of four Nations’ Cup tournaments, failed to win the competition during his days with the national team.

Easily the most decorated Ghanaian footballer in history, no silverware with the Black Stars remains the only omission from the rich accolades’ list of Kuffour who won several honours with the various junior national teams.

Now he is backing the current generation to right those wrongs with victory in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea come January and February 2012.

“The boys are committed and therefore don’t see the reason why we can’t get a win.

"If you look at the performance in recent times especially against England, fantastic performance.

“I am prescribing a 2-0 win and I am sure the players will deliver on the day," Kuffour had boldly predicted ahead of last Saturday's final qualifier in Omdurman.

And after seeing his prediction come true to the exact detail, the man who once said he will become a pastor one day believes it's about time Ghana became teh champions of Africa again.

“I salute you, gallant Stars. Now go ahead and do for mother Ghana what my generation of footballers could not do by delivering to her, the African Cup of Nations,” wrote Kuffour on his Facebook page on Monday morning.
