Kuffour: Ghana will not retaliate against Zambia

Former Black Stars defender Sammy Kuffour has assured Zambia and indeed the entire continent that Ghanaians will not retaliate alleged assault suffered by certain national team players after the recent FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Midfielder Derek Boateng and unused substitute Ben Acheampong were reportedly assaulted by Zambian policemen after Ghana suffered a 0-1 loss with the Ukraine based Boateng apparently threatening in a post match interview “they will come to Ghana and we are waiting for them in Ghana.” But Kuffour has played down the alleged threat.

“I spoke with some of the big men in the team and they told me Derek Boateng went to speak to the referee after the game and he was hit a blow by a policeman. This should not happen.

"We are all Africans and we all play the game to enjoy, there should be no blows. That is not fair but I don’t think Ghana will retaliate,” Kuffour defended strongly on Supersport’s Soccer Africa show on DSTV.

Kuffour who won 59 caps for Ghana added: “I think we played our best game at the AFCON against Zambia and we lost. This was a chance to revenge but we lost again.

"We have to accept the defeat and go home to plan ahead and I’m happy to hear Agyemang Badu say we will win convincingly.

"Derek Boateng said that because he was angry, he was the one who was blown so he was angry.”Credit:
