Kuban unveils Rabiu as latest signing

Black Stars midfielder Rabiu Mohamed was on Thursday unveiled by Russian club, Kuban Krasnodar as its latest signing.

The midfielder had earlier passed a medical penning a three-year deal with the Krasnodar-based club for an undisclosed fee. He is expected to start training with his colleagues immediately for upcoming games.

The 23-year-old arrived in Krasnodar, a city located in the southern part of Russia 24-hours earlier to formalize his switch from French side Evian Thonon Gaillard.

Rabiu told GNA Sports he was excited about the opportunity to play for Kuban following the improved offer from the club.

“It is a very good feeling to make the switch. I will join my new teammates soon and begin the journey.'

The midfielder who was a target of other clubs including English side Hull City, was also motivated by Kuban’s involvement in the UEFA Europa League, where they are due to face Dutch giants, Feyenoord today, Thursday, August 22 in a third round playoff.

“The prospect of playing in the UEFA competitions is always very good.'

It will be the first time the modest midfielder will be participating in a major European club competition.

The Ghanaian is the latest acquisition for the ‘Kazakis’ after French journeyman Djibril Cisse also joined the side earlier.

Kuban, founded in 1928, has a rich history and financial power with Alexander Nikolayevich Tkachyov, Governor of Krasnodar Krai as its chairman.

Rabiu has been in the form of his life in the last two years, churning out superb performances for both club and country.

He played an influential role for Evian as they reached the final of the Coupe de France last season.
