Koufie rejects entire graduation

Chairman of the Ghana Football Association Ben Koufie has rejected the idea of promoting the entire Black Satellites squad to a single team.

Contrary to widely held views, Koufie is against the proposition to promote the entire Black Satellites team to the Under-23 side, Black Meteors or the Black Stars.

Koufie explained that the Black Satellites team will not be used to secure the 2002 African Nations Cup, the 2004 Olympic games and the 2006 World Cup campaigns, because there are other players for the Black Stars who are very young and would suit such competitions.

He told the Ghana News Agency that there are some very promising players in the Black Starlets, who would be ripe enough to challenge members of the other teams for shirts in the Black Stars.

Koufie says whilst some of the players would actually merit selection into the Black Stars, others would have to give way to players from other squads.

And he also suggested that the selection criteria has been widened in order to get the best players available at any given time, so that Ghana are represented by the best qualified players in every competition.
