Kotoko to face Togo Champions Sèmassi on Sunday

Ghanaian Champions Asante Kotoko have confirmed they will be travelling to face Togolese Champions Sèmassi Sokodé in an international friendly on Sunday, November 9.

It was initially scheduled that the Togolese giants will travel to Ghana for the first leg of the two-legged tie but on Monday afternoon, Sèmassi, who over the weekend emerged winners of the Championnat National de Première Division 2014 beating Anges to the title by a five-point difference, asked for a swap of the arrangement in order to have Asante Kotoko join in their league coronation at home next Sunday.

“We had arranged with Togolese Champions Sèmassi to hold two friendlies – first in Kumasi then the second leg in Togo. But the initial plans have been changed and we have to go to Togo first this Sunday.

“This afternoon [Monday], the club communicated to us they would rather want us to come there first as they would be celebrating their league triumph and it is befitting to do it with Kotoko,” Asante Kotoko General Manager Samuel Opoku Nti explained to Footy-Ghana.com

“We will therefore travel to honour them then after a couple of weeks, they come to Kumasi for the second leg,” the ex-footballer added.

Due to the delay in the start of the Ghana Premier League, Asante Kotoko who will be participating in the preliminaries of the 2015 CAF Champions League early next year have devised engaging in friendlies with clubs in neighbouring countries to keep their team in shape for the challenges ahead.

They recorded a 1-0 win over Ivorian side Tanda FC in Kumasi last Sunday.
