Kotoko sweeps LG awards

Kumasi Asante Kotoko last Friday swept five of the eight awards at the LG Top Four Soccer Tournament awards night at the Novotel Hotel in Accra.

The ceremony, which was organised by the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) to honour outstanding players in the tournament, sponsors and stake holders saw Kotoko taking home the best player, best goalkeeper, golden boot, most classic goal and the fair play awards.

Defender Joe Hendricks emerged as the best player and took home a ghetto blaster while Louis Quainoo was given 500,000 cedis and a fridge for being the best goalkeeper with Isaac Boakye getting one million cedis for scoring the most classic goal.

Boakye and Stephen Oduro and Asamoah Gyan of Liberty Professionals were presented with a ghetto blaster each for being the three top scorers.

Kotoko were also given a certificate for winning the fair play award.

Other award winners were William Agbovi, best referee, Joe Tagoe of Olympics, most exciting player and Kotei Blankson of Liberty and Emmanuel Osei of Hearts of Oak, discoveries of the tournament.

However apart from Agbovi, Osei and Blankson, most of the players who received awards could not turn up since they are in camp either for the Black Stars or the Black Meteors preparing for international assignments.

Mr. Kwame Amoa Bosompen the Accra Representative of Kotoko received the awards on behalf of the players of the team with a challenge to all clubs that they were going to sweep all the awards in the third edition of the tournament next year.
