Kotoko plan to raise $500,000 for Africa

The chairman of the yet-to-be inaugurated Asante Kotoko 2014 Africa Campaign Committee Alhaji Abu Lamini has revealed that the club’s quest to make a meaningful impact in the 2014 CAF Champions which begins in February will be made easier with the availability of huge financial resources.

Speaking to 90 MINUTES after the committee’s latest meeting prior to Kotoko’s 3-0 drubbing of city rivals King Faisal in the Ghana Premier League last Wednesday, the former board member and club donor has stated the club needs a $500,000 seeding to drive the club’s ‘Money zone’ ambition.

“We want the club to make a meaningful impact when we return to Africa next year so we presented a proposal to the board which has been approved. Our first target is to see the club get to the money zone (1/8th stage) after which we proceed with the ensuing plans of possibly winning the CAF Champions League trophy.

We have estimated that we will need to spend as much as $500,000 to take us to the last 8 which is termed as the ‘Money zone’.

This includes the team’s preparations, protocol issues, travel arrangements and motivational packages for the players and technical team. We have plans set to achieve this target. All we need is the collaboration from our teeming fans,” Alhaji Lamini revealed.

The committee which will be made up of 12 members will be inaugurated with a fund raising ceremony at the Golden Tulip Hotel on December 6.

Some of the confirmed members of the committee include board member and ex-footballer Samuel Osei Kuffour, Dr Kwaku Frimpong, Nana Boakye, Sampson Deen, Kabral Blay Amihere, Kennedy Agyapong, coach Mas-Ud Dramani and Interim Asante Kotoko General Manager Samuel Opoku Nti.

Alhaji Lamini also confirmed that each member of the Kotoko Africa Cup Committee (KACC) will contribute GHc5,000 as seed money before they employ other means to meet the $500,000 target for the campaign.
