Kotoko coach Osei has selection problem - Sefa

Michael Osei - Asante Kotoko Head Coach Michael Osei - Asante Kotoko Head Coach

Asante Kotoko former chief scout Ebenezer Sefa claims stop-gap coach Michael Osei is struggling to roll out a regular first team, which has affected the club’s performance in the Ghana Premier League.

Kotoko have picked only two victories in their last seven games, sharing the spoils goalless with Aduana Stars on Wednesday.

“My problem with Kotoko this season is the inconsistency with team selection for matches. Since the club asked David Duncan to step aside and Michael Osei took over, virtually all the 30 registered players have played part in the league games. There are injuries and suspensions as well, I understand but it's not the best practice," Sefa was quoted as saying by Ghanaweb.

“There was a bit of consistency with player selections in the first five or six games, but same can’t be said of his team in their recent games and, this doesn’t augur well for the good of the team.

“A very good team has consistency from the first choice goalkeeper to the four defensive men and the two holding midfielders. Basically, you don’t change them, unless suspension or an injury forces your hands as a coach to do so.

“You can fumble around with the offensive players and that is why for me, in terms of consistency, I think there is a problem with the Kotoko team. Besides that, they are a very good team who play very good football,” he added.

Kotoko now sit fourth with 41 points, two points behind toppers Wa All Stars and travel to Sekondi to play Hasaacas next weekend.
