Kotoko chief confirms Mahatma Sunderland interest

Under-fire Kotoko Executive Board Chairman Dr K K Sarpong has confirmed English side Sunderland are interested in Hearts of Oak striker Mahatma Otoo.

Reports circulated in the Ghanaian media last month about Sunderland’s interest in the 21-year-old with the former Ghana U23 striker also confirming interest from the Stadium of Light.

Kotoko have a partnership agreement with English Premier League outfit and the Porcupine Warriors have a responsibility under the partnership deal to recommend players to Sunderland.

The reports claimed Sunderland officials have asked Kotoko to initiate talks with Hearts of Oak officials about a possible move for the striker and Dr K K Sarpong has confirmed something of that sort has taken place.

“There’s nothing wrong with that because we have an agreement with Sunderland but there are obviously things I can’t talk about now,” he told Accra-based Oman FM.

Mahatma has been in blistering shape for Hearts in Ghana after scoring 12 goals in all competitions this season.
