Kotoko beat Arsenals

Kumasi, April 24, GNA - Fabulous Kumasi Asante Kotoko earned a 2-1 victory over visiting Berekum Arsenal in their Week 25 Glo Premiership encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on Sunday.

Strongman Ahmed Toure shot Kotoko ahead in the 15th minute when his goal bound shot was pushed into the yawning net by defender Akwasi Acheampong after the striker had displaced goalkeeper Thomas Tuah Asare with a dribble.

Arsenals accepted the challenge and pushed more men up front but the strong defence of Kotoko manned by Daniel Nii Adjei, Fatawu Mohammed, Awal Mohammed, John Kufour and Yaw Frimpong, managed to ward them from causing any havoc.

The visitors, however, managed to pull even in the 56th minute when substitute Nana Poku capitalized on an offensive blunder by Louis Quainoo to hit the back of the net with a low grounder with saw goalkeeper Isaac Amoako sprawling in vain to protect.

The Porcupine Warriors who were determined to carry the day, scored their second goal in the 62nd minute through a penalty which was scored by Nathaniel Asamoah.

The penalty came about when Fatawu was brought down in the box by Osei Bonsu when he was about scoring and referee Charles Dowouna who was on the spot did not hesitate to whistle for the spot kick. When the match was about six minutes to come to an end, Arsenals Acheampong was sent off for hitting Toure and after the match it was no wonder when referee Dowouna was attacked by the players and officials of Arsenal for claims of bias officiating.
