Kotoko IMC presents trophy to Asantehene

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Kinapharma Premier league champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Monday presented the trophy they won to the owner and spiritual head of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene at the Manhyia palace in Kumasi.

The IMC, led by its chairman, Mr Sylvester Asare Owusu and the entire playing body as well as the technical managers of the club, were accompanied to the palace by a large army of jubilant supporters who besieged the precinct of the palace amidst drumming and dancing to catch a glimpse of the players of their idol club and the trophy, which had been draped with the colours of the club.

The trophy was presented to the Asantehene by the captain of the club, Isaac Owusu "Ninja".

Receiving the trophy, Otumfuo Osei Tutu commended the IMC, technical bench, players and the supporters of the club for playing their various roles efficiently to ensure victory for the club.

He, however, stopped short of confirming the appointment of the IMC members as suggested by some of the chiefs who were present at the ceremony. Otumfuo Osei Tutu explained that it was necessary for him to examine the books of the IMC before he could take any decision on their future.

He said it was time for him to take key interest in the affairs, operations and finances of the club to ensure that financial contributions made by the large army of supporters of the club were put to judicious use to benefit the club.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu made it clear that Kotoko which is owned by the Golden Stool, remained the embodiment of the spirit and aspirations of the people of Asanteman and he would therefore, not succumb to any whims and caprices of individuals or groups in taking decisions affecting the club.

He therefore cautioned people who had been using the media to claim ownership of the club to be careful of their behaviour since the Manhyia Palace would not allow any individual to take the club to ransom.

He gave the assurance that the club would continue to achieve successes in the years ahead and donated 100 million cedis as his personal winning bonus to the players.
