Kotoko IMC Appoints Manso And Debunks Stories

Former Asante Kotoko skipper and current assistant coach of the club, Stephen Frimpong Manso, has been assigned another duty in the club, in addition to assisting Abdul Razak in handling the technical affairs of the club.

Henceforth, the former Black Stars defender assumes the position of Team Manager in the club. Manso's added responsibility has been occasioned by the 6-month ban the Disciplinary Committee slapped on Alhaji Yahaya who has held the position for a very long time.

The Chairman of the IMC, Mr Sylvester Asare Owusu, disclosed this to the Kotoko Express in a short interview over the weekend. Manso's appointment runs counter to a publication in last Wednesday's edition of the Soccer Express that former national striking wizard, Opoku Afriyie has been appointed to fill the vacuum Yahaya's six months absence would create in the team as a result of the ban.

The IMC chairman complained bitterly about the conduct of some media houses that have made it a daily chore to churn out false information about the club and advised that the Kotoko doors are open to all who want to lend some credibility to the stories they publish.

He said the situation where journalists publish anything is unprofessional and leaves much to be desired, when it gets to the extent where salaries of players are even published in the newspapers. Mr Sylvester Asare Owusu appealed to the press to crosscheck their facts before going to press.

Meanwhile, Nana Yaw Owusu, the Vice Chairman of the IMC has called on supporters of the club to treat the ill-researched stories that have gained prominence in a section of the media with the contempt they deserve. He said such supporters of the club should not lose sleep over such stories as they are calculated to sow seeds of discord and rancour among the playing staff.

He also explained that the decision to remind Alhaji Yahaya of his six-month ban with a letter did not mean Yahaya's appointment with the club has been terminated. He said the IMC took that decision in order not to be seen to be showing gross disrespect to a decision by the GFA. He said the management of the club has requested for a review of the decision, and if all goes well Yahaya would be reinstated to his position.

He described as total falsehood news that the IMC had loaned three of the club's players to B.A. United. He said the IMC has no intention of taking such a decision, adding that even if such a decision would be taken in the long run, it has not been subjected to discussion at management level.
