Kotoko Coach Passes First Major Test

RALF ZUMDICH, the newly signed Coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko passed his first major assignment with distinction, after leading the porcupine warriors to qualify for the semi-final of CAF CUP championship. Even though Kotoko lost the match 2-4 to Egyptian Club, Gazelle El Mahala, the German proved beyond doubt that he is indeed the man whose technical expertise can take the Oseikrom boys to places.

Parading the same squad that beat Champion Club Accra Hearts of Oak, last season 2-0 under the technical direction of his German compatriot, Ernst Middndorp, the fabulous boys struggled by conceding two quick goals in the first half. Therefore, when Mahalla scored their third goal, Ralf Zumdich decided to vary his game by throwing more men into attack. Black Satellites playmaker, Kojo Poku who was brought into the team at the eleventh hour, and who was brought on to replace defender Paul Acquah, was to change the course of the game by contributing immensely to the two goals scored by Michael Osei.

In a post-match interview, Kwabena Yeboah confessed that initially when the Coach made the substitution, and brought on the youngster, it was deemed inappropriate, as there were quite experienced players like Joe Otchere and Nana Frimpong who could have been brought on, however, Kojo justified Ralf’s choice of technical direction, by dictating the midfield battles. Kwabena Yeboah could not help but shower heaps of praises on the German, as well as the revelation of the evening’s encounter, Kwadwo Poku.
