Kotoko Ag. GM blasts Yahaya Mohammed

Acting General Manager of league leaders Asante Kotoko Samuel Opoku Nti has lashed out at attacker Yahaya Mohammed’s decision to go public about his contractual issues with the club last week.

The versatile player who is currently at the local Black Stars camp last week in an interview with Footy-Ghana and other media platforms hinted he may not countenance any move for contractual talks if management of Asante Kotoko allowed his current deal with the club enter its final six months.

Though the player thinks his outcry was without malice, the club’s authorities seem to have taken offence to his decision to vent his frustrations about contract renewal in the public.

“What he [Yahaya] did is unprofessional; I don’t want to comment about it,” Opoku Nti said when asked about the situation with Yahaya.

“After all the contract is very subtle between the player and the club. It is not a public matter. If Yahaya is going away from the club and is speaking about it, then it’s okay but as long as he is staying with Kotoko I will not comment in public. He shouldn’t wash our dirty linen in public [sic],” the ex-footballer added.

In related news, the midfielder added more salt to injury by refusing to join the Kotoko team to travel for last Sunday’s 2-2 drawn game away to Ebusua Dwarfs courting more discontent among club officials.

Footy-Ghana checks reveal Yahaya was the first to report to the club’s training on Monday and expressed an unqualified apology to the entire team and its handlers for his misconduct.

He has since been ordered to go public and render apology to the club’s teeming fans and explain his reasons which he claims to be ‘personal.’
