Korean Fans tip Starlets for finals despite defeat

(From Caesar Abagali, GNA Special Correspondent in Ulsan, South Korea)

Ulsan, (South Korea), Aug. 24, GNA - A number of Korean soccer fans have tipped Ghana's U-17 National Team, the Black Starlets to cruise to the finals despite their 3-2 defeat by Germany on Thursday. They said it was a delight on the whole to watch the Starlets since they performed creditably well in their two games despite loosing one of them by a respectable margin.

Speaking in separate interviews with the GNA Sports in Seoul, capital of South Korea, Kimpo Airport and Ulsan, the fans said Ghana has so far impressed all football loving people in the tournament by their superb performance and could easily beat Columbia and progress to the next stages. Mr. Li Young, a fan at Seoul Incheon International Airport said, "Ghana plays well. Better than even Brazil in their match against Germany but its unfortunate they could not score many goals."

He said, "Ghana is a big name in juvenile soccer and if they are eliminated now, the tournament would not be interesting and it is my desire and hope that Ghana meet my country at the finals."

Ms Cheo Lee said in Ulsan that she never watched any of the Ghana matches but people in Korea speak well of the team, which she said gives her the strong feeling that Ghana would be among the top four teams to lift the trophy.

Others who spoke to the GNA Sports pointed to the fact that since the Starlets won the cup twice and were runners-up twice it is an achievement that should urge them on to do better than merely playing but to score more goals.
