King Tackie Tawiah centenary trophy for Hearts, Olympicmatch

The Board of Trustees of the King Tackie Tawiah Memorial Trust on Wednesday presented a giant trophy to be contested for by Accra Hearts of Oaks and Accra Great Olympics in celebrations to mark the centenary of King Tackie's death.

Presenting the trophy, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III, La Mantse and Chairman of the Trust, said series of events have been planned in honour of the King, whose exemplary leadership helped in the preservation of Ga culture. He said the trust would soon unveil other planned programmes including the unveiling of a statue in honour of the King.

King Tackie Tawiah I, lived from 1817 to 1902 and during that time, led his people into a series of wars culminating in his being exiled to Elmina from 1880 to 1883 by the British.

Speaking on his team's readiness for the match, the Chief Executive of Hearts, Mr Thomas Okine, said his team is well prepared for the match and assured Hearts fans of a resounding 3-0 victory over Olympics. But Olympics Chief Executive, R. O. Solomon, assured Hearts of a tough and uncompromising fight come Sunday. He said Olympics gradual rise in the league from bottom at one stage, to occupy fourth position at the end of the first round, is ample evidence of the serene atmosphere currently prevailing in camp, which will ensure victory for the Dade boys come Sunday.
