Kevin scores to give Schalke a narrow win

Ghana's Kevin-Prince Boateng grabbed his debut goal on his return to the German Bundesliga by scoring the only goal of the match for Schalke 04 in their away win over Mainz 05 on Saturday.

The former AC Milan ace scored in the 34th minute to hand the Royal Blues their second straight win of the season.

Mainz took the game to the visitors, dominating play in the opening 20 minutes of the encounter but were unable to breakdown their defence.

However after the half hour mark, Schalke warmed themselves into the game and Boateng scored the match winner after showing great resilience.

The Ghana international capitalised on a defensive blunder by Japanese international Okazaki as he intercepted his pass to send a volley home for the only goal of the game.He was replaced after 84 minutes.

Boateng was unable to play for Ghana in the 2014 World Cup qualifying Group D decider against Zambia in Kumasi last Friday.
