Keta Municipality to develop a Beach Soccer Stadium

*

Plans are underway for the construction of a beach soccer stadium in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region to facilitate the development of the sport in the region.

The Member of Parliament for the Anlo Constituency, Mr. Clement Humado and a former minister of sports said he was collaborating with the Keta Municipal Assembly to ensure that the project takes off early next year.

He announced that so far, land had been identified around the Keta Sea Defence Project area to be used for the construction of the stadium and expressed the hope that by early next year, physical signs of the project will be seen.

Mr. Humado said this when the Sunset Sports Keta , current national beach soccer champions called on him to present their championship trophy to him at his office in Anloga.

According to Mr. Humado, the plan to construct the stadium was to ensure the holistic development of the sport in the area and also to make the Keta municipality the hub of beach soccer in the country.

He said the two time soccer beach champions had ably demonstrated that Keta was the cradle of the sport and that there was the need for expanded infrastructure within the entire area to inculcate the sport into the younger generation who will be well placed to take over from the ageing ones.

Mr. Humado recollects that when he was appointed a sports minister three years ago, he vowed to make three traditional sports popular and added with satisfaction Beach Soccer, Traditional Wrestling and Dragon Boat Racing had received much public acclaim.

For the future of Sunset Sports Keta, he said, there was the need for extensive restructuring of the management and operations of the club to make it more vibrant so as to attract public support and international presence.

He charged the players not to celebrate the victory too much as to become lazy but should be spurred on by the achievement to be more disciplined and train more.

He also presented the team with a cash of GH?2,000 as motivation for their success and expressed the hope that other logistical needs of the club will be addressed in due course.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Club, Mr. Dzidodo Ruben Adzaho expressed appreciation for the continuous support they had enjoyed from the MP which had culminated in they winning the trophy for two consecutive times.

Mr. Adzaho was also enthused about the fact that the team had contributed the highest number of players to the national team, the Black Sharks saying the players had been good ambassadors but adequate motivation by way of cash had not been adequate to spur them on.

He was however not happy with attempts by the Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) to shortchange the club.

According to him, they competed for GH?5,000 but after winning the league, the association was giving them GH?2,500 and called on the MP to take up the issue on their behalf.
