Kenya-Ghana Friendly Called Off

The friendly match between Black Stars and Kenya natioanl team, that had been planned for Kasarani on Tuesday, has been cancelled. The West African football heavyweights were to play Harambee Stars while on their way to Sudan for their 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next Saturday.
“We have received reports that the Ghanaian national team won’t be honouring the friendly match, although they have requested for a match with a club in our league,” the Harambee Stars team manager, Edward Oduor, said on Thursday.
The Black Stars jet in on Sunday.
In 2005, the team camped in Naivasha and played against low-level teams, including schools, before they went on to defeat South Africa and qualify for the 2006 Fifa World Cup.
“We were ready to play the match but received information at the last minute that they weren’t ready to play the national team,” Football Kenya Limited senior vice-chairman Titus Kasuve said on Thursday. The match was to prepare the home side for their match against Mozambique.
