Suspended Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng was not handed a starting role by Milan but came off the bench to play in their 2-2 draw at Empoli in the Serie A on Saturday evening.

Boateng, 28, was introduced in the 86th minute as a replacement for Japanese midfielder Keisuke Honda but he had little on his handles to make an impact.

The Rossoneri's twice went ahead thanks to strikes from Carlos Bacca and Giacomo Bonaventura, but failed to protect their lead on either occasion and eventually had to settle for a share of the spoils following Massimo Maccarone's second-half equaliser.

Boateng was expected to get a starting role in Saturday's game following his off the bench heroics in the victory over Fiorentina but Milan's Serbian boss Sinisa Mihajlovic kept him on the bench until he introduced him in the last 4 minutes of the game.

Mario Balotelli also came off the bench in the second-half to play for Milan.
