John Mensah’s stay at Rennes in limbo

French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes are in the market looking for a central defender as a possible replacement for former Ghana skipper John Mensah, who joined them in January.

According to French newspaper L'Equipe, Rennes’ new coach Phillipe Montanier is ready to sign Real Betis Polish central defender Damien Perquis to beef up his squad for the coming season after he left the experienced Ghanaian out of the team and talks are at an advanced stage.

The 29-year-old Perquis has already played in France for Troyes, St. Etienne and Sochaux making name with the latter where he made a total of 123 appearances scoring four goals from 2008 to 2012.

Mensah, who is in his second spell with Rennes, has failed to command a regular place in the team whilst his frequent injury problems have also been a source of worry to the club.

He played 59 for Rennes scoring two goals from 2006 to 2008 and rose to become the skipper of the side in his first spell before being signed on by Olympique Lyonnais.
