John Mensah Rubbishes Salary Rumour

Black Stars skipper John Mensah has rubbished media claims that his employers Olympique Lyon have frozen his salary due to his recent inactivity.

It has emerged in some media quarters that the defender’s monthly allowance had been put on ice till he regained fitness.

However, the player revealed in an exclusive interview that: “It is not true that my salary has been frozen. I have received my salary in full since I rejoined the team from the Nations Cup break.

“If there is something like that in the newspapers, I can say it is absolute false. I was surprised when a close relation told me of the development on phone. In fact, I have the bank statement of my salary for this month as we speak.

“I started training fully yesterday and I’m peaking in performance, and that has gladdened the hearts of my managers,” he added.

Mensah joined the former French champions, Lyon from Rennes in 2008 for a five-year term and has been inactive lately due to an injury he sustained during the Gabon/Equatorial Guinea championship.

Injury blighted his last Nations Cup, but it was one of his best competitions, as he scored two goals for Ghana and booked a place in the first team of the African XI.
