Care-taker coach of Hearts of Oak, Eddie Ansah has admitted that his side had to dig deep before beating Bechem United by a goal on match day 27 of the First Capital Plus Bank Premier League on Sunday at the Accra sports stadium.

The Phobians went into the game all gun blazing as their fight to escape relegation continues and they struck the match winner in the 25th minute courtesy Kenneth Okoro after he connected home Eric Kumi’s cross.

The Accra giants were the better side in the first half but they got pegged back by the Bechem based club in the second half and were left off the hook on many occasions.

The win thus moves Hearts of Oak from the 15th position to the 11th position with 35 points on the log sheet and their Care-taker coach Eddie Ansah has admitted that it was a hard fought win for his side.

“It was hard won victory we went into the with a game plan, we went into the game knowing too well that we have our destiny in our own hands, we went into the game knowing that Bechem United were coming to fight and we had our game plan and in the first half our game plan worked to perfection.

“The goal we scored was what we did at training on Saturday. It was a game of two halves we dominated the first half and Bechem came in strongly in the second half and they fought to the end and I thank God for the victory,” Ansah said at the post match interview.

The former national goalkeeper refutes claims that his side’s lacks match fitness as they lost control of the game to Bechem United in the second half but he attributed that to an intense pressure on his charges due to the position of the club

“The positions in which we are takes a lot of stress out of the players, there is a lot of pressure on them and they gave everything out, they are human and they must lack somewhere and they lacked it in the latter part of the game but that doesn’t mean they don’t have the strength, they are capable of playing 120 minutes but just that the trend of the caused them to succumb a little bit,” he added.

Hearts of Oak next First Capital Plus Bank Premier League game is against Medeama at the T&A Park in Tarkwa.
