Saitama, Aug. 27, GNA – Captain of the Black Princesses, Mercy Myles has said that teams must look beyond just qualifying at major tournaments in the wake of the team’s awful performance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup underway in Japan.

The Princesses bowed out of the competition with a lone goal loss to their Chinese counterparts in the final Group D game on Monday at the Saitama Stadium, and after finishing at the depth of the group pointless and failing to score a goal in three games, Myles reckons that much work can lead to better outings.

In a post match interview with GNA Sports, the captain of the Princesses said “We accept what happened at the tournament. We know that we have a whole lot to do but It should not always be about qualification”.

On the game with China, the midfielder conceded that their best was not enough to land them at least a point against the Asian side.

“We did our best. Unfortunately, our best was not enough”, said the captain who rated her performance against the Chinese as her worst of the tournament.

“I can’t tell but everything did not go well. I felt very bad. Aside the whole team, today's (game against China) was a bad day for me. I did not put up a good performance.”

Myles, who made her second appearance at the biennial championship this term after 2010 in Germany, had a quiet tourney and rates her output as “below average”.

The Princesses bowed out of the competition alongside China whilst Germany and the USA advanced to the next round from their group.

The Ghanaian side also failed to go past the group stage on their maiden appearance in 2010 in Germany.
