Isaac Boakye Signs for Kotoko

The management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has confirmed that it has signed on Obuasi Goldfields striker Isaac Boakye after successful negotiations with his club.

Kotoko Accra representative, Kwame Amoa-Bosompem who led the Kotoko negotiations told the Kotoko Express that Kotoko was able to register the player with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) before close of the registration deadline on Friday, June 21.

The hitch in the whole equation, however, is that Boakye is expected to go on trials in Turkey soon and may not feature for Kotoko till after his return. Indeed it is possible the national striker may never feature for Kotoko should his trials turn out to be successful.

Management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko meanwhile say they are hopeful that if Boakye obtains a foreign contract he will still feature for Kotoko until a time when both parties feel it appropriate that they part ways.

Boakye was one of Obuasi Goldfields' major attacking options for the 2001 season and he rose to some fleeting fame in CAN 2002 when he came on as a substitute in the Burkina Faso - Ghana last group game to score two late goals to qualify Ghana for the quarter-final of the tournament. The stout striker has since had a couple of trials with European sides and though both Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko were right on his heels he has refused to sign for either side until now.

Meanwhile it can be confirmed that efforts to recruit former Ebusua Dwarfs left winger Richard Ackon have fallen through. Ackon who has been plying his trade with Norway's Stabaek expressed his intention to play for Kotoko but a request for an International Transfer Certificate from the Norwegian club failed to come through before the close of registration last Friday.

ADU POKU, ASOWAH FOR MINE STARS

Former Asante Kotoko skipper, Prince Adu Poku has been loaned to Prestea Mine Stars for the rest of the season.

Adu Poku who featured for Dawu Youngsters on loan from Kotoko last season reverted to Kotoko after his stint at Dawu, but both player and club still do not seem to have any future with each other and he has been in a limbo since the commencement of the season, having decided that he was not ready to play for Dawu for another year.

Kotoko Express can confirm that the Prestea club managed to sign on the player before close of day on Friday, June 21.

Adu Poku had earlier this year sought floating status with the Player Status Committee of the Ghana Football Association but he has reportedly rescinded his decision following the deal with Mine Stars.

Another player who has joined Mine Stars on loan from Kotoko is diminutive offensive midfielder, Frank Asowah. The short but strong midfield import from Adansiman United missed out on the first team of Kotoko for most parts of the season and management was counselled by former coach, Ernst Middendorp to seek another club for him.
