Impilo Ghana FC wins Atta Mills trophy

By George Osei

Enterprising Impilo Ghana Football Club on Sunday won its first ever trophy in Ghana football when they beat Adoagyiri United Football Club 1 ? 0 in a highly charged encounter played in memory of the late President of Ghana John Evans Atta Mills.

Hardworking defender Samuel Ayeetey scored the only goal of the match in the 13th minute to cap a memorable afternoon for the young player who was very outstanding on the day.

The game played at the Adoagyiri Zongo community Park, attracted one of the biggest crowds in recent memory at that venue, including the former chairman of the Eastern regional Football Association A. A. Lawal.

Impilo Ghana FC started the game on a very fast note with their midfield of Sumaila Bukari, Prince Derek Osei, Hadi Hussein and Patrick Mensah, passing the ball very beautifully in the middle of the park.

Their early dominance paid off in the 13th minute when a corner kick swung in from the right by Derek Osei, was headed home by Ayeetey who rose highest to nod the ball home from inside the 16 ? yard box.

They pressed on for further goals and should have added to their tally well before half time but some wayward finishing on the part of Razak Jibril and Hadi Hussein robbed them of those opportunities.

The second stanza show the home side making a string of changes in a bid to get back on level terms, but the defence of the Impilo Ghana FC side marshaled by Faila Hussein and Salifu Mubarak, stood tall.

On the few occasions that Adoagyiri United got behind the backline of the opposition, they found Abdul Razak in post for Impilo Ghana, in fine form as he pulled off a couple of fine saves to keep the score 1 ? 0 in his sides favour until full time.

Line up: Impilo Ghana FC Abdul Razak, Samuel Ayeetey, Raphael Djumfour, Faila Hussein, Salifu Mubarak, Michael Opare/Ismaila Quaye, Sumaila Bukari/Emmanuel Donkor, Hadi Hussein/Abdul Rahman Gida, Razak Jibril/Ebenezer Ayeh, Prince Derek Osei, Patrick Mensah.
