Impilo Ghana FC to play in honour of late Bob Marley

Enterprising Impilo Ghana FC will on Sunday, May 12, take on a team being put together by the Bob and Rita Marley Foundation in a specially arranged football encounter to be played in memory of the late reggae musician Robert Nester Marley.
The game would be played at the Konkonuru (home of the Bob and Rita Marley Foundations) near Aburi in the Eastern region at 3:pm and would be preceded by a curtain raiser between Greater Accra under 12 juvenile side, Shaka FC and Deportivo FC of Aburi at the Town Park.
Saturday, May 11, marks the 32nd remembrance of the passing of Robert Nester Marley, and each year, his Foundation and that of his wife, (Rita), organizes an event to celebrate this musical icon who still reigns supreme in the hearts and minds of music lovers worldwide.
Spokesperson for the Bob Marley XI who is commonly known as FIRE, said on Thursday that, the game is being played to remind the world of the principles that the great musician stood for and called on Africans to unite as one people which was what Bob Marley preached before he died.
He told this reporter that Bob Marley was a universal figure who loved sport especially football, and, also stood for equal rights and justice for all persons adding that he always wanted peace to prevail worldwide something he urged world leaders to embrace.
Chief Executive Officer of Impilo Ghana FC, Kwabena Osei Bonsu urged the youth to follow the example set by Bob Marley saying that his success must be an inspiration for them to strive to attain great heights in all spears of endeavour especially as soccer players.
Ras Joojo who will coach the Bob Marley XI, said his boys are charged for action and also called for peace to prevail at all times.
Players expected to feature for the Bob Marley XI will include Kwaku Dankwa (Boggey), Cudjoe Akpaloo, Yaw Bonzi, Godfred Yeboah, Lantei Mills and goalkeeper Buffon.
Stephen Appiah (Ronaldo), Farouck Rashid, Sumaila Bukari, Kwaku Sika and Rashid Obuobi among others will feature for the Impilo Ghana side.
Robert Nester Marley of Jamaican origin died on May 11, 1981, and is acclaimed worldwide as the greatest reggae musician that ever lived with his tracks still popular in musical circles across the globe.
