Veteran Ghanaian trainer Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has told GHANASoccernet.com that he would have stepped down as Black Stars coach if he were in Kwesi Appiah’s shoes.

Appiah, who failed to guide the Black Stars to progress from the Group stage, is under-pressure to quit but the ex-international has vowed to stay on.

Reports of player revolt and indiscipline have heralded the team’s early elimination from the World Cup finals in Brazil.

Kevin Prince Boateng, who was sacked from camp for verbally abusing the coach in the full glare of other players, accused Kwesi Appiah of being influenced by some players in making his selections.

Sarpong says he would have humbly resigned had he been in a similar situation like Appiah.

“Kwesi had and will always have our support. But the situation he finds himself and the fact that Keshi resigned despite leading his team to the knockout stages makes his situation awkward,” the Ebusua Dwarfs coach told GHANASoccernet.com

“I will sincerely have resigned if I was in his situation if not people will be thinking there is something there that he is holding on to.

“The players’ revolt did not help the situation I must say.”
