Ghanaian striker Ebenezer Assifuah opened his season’s account with a goal when his side FC Sion drew 2-2 against FC Luzern in the Swiss Super League on Saturday.

The 22-year-old joined the Swiss outfit from Ghanaian club Liberty Professionals in 2013 after his exploits at the Fifa U20 World Cup in Turkey, where Ghana finished as third-placed team, with Assifuah scoring six goals to scoop the golden boot of the tournament.

“I am working hard to transform my good preseason form into the league and I'm hoping for the best,” Assifuah told Goal.

The Ghanaian built on Moussa Konate’s opener for Sion by doubling their lead in the 54th minute. And as the visitors looked destined for all three points, two late goals into added time from the home side spoilt the party.

“We conceded very late which is not good for us, but we have just started the campaign and I am confident we are going to improve,” he said.

“It was a tough game against FC Luzern, but I look forward to scoring more goals for my club this season.”

Assifuah played 68 minutes before ceding his place to Vincent Sierro, as Sion dropped valuable points in match day two of the new season.

“The Swiss Super League is a tough league. However, I’m already enjoying the new term because I seem to feel at home. The great people surrounding me - my teammates and the technical staff - are all wonderful people,” Assifuah added.

Sion are second on the league, with two points adrift of leaders FC Basel who claimed six points from two games.
