The head coach of the Black Princesses, Robert Sackey, is taking full responsibility of his charges 0-4 thrashing by the United States in their Group D opener at the FIFA U-20 World Cup currently under-way in Japan.

The Princesses, who dominated the open play, lost control for the greater part of the game after they conceded a first half own goal, and Sackey says he is willing to take responsibilities for the team’s no show.

“I take the blame for our big and disappointing loss. As a Coach, I should take responsibilities for what happens to my team,” he admitted.

He told GNA Sports in Hiroshima after the match that “we made too many mistakes and that cost us. We did not play to our potential and in the end, we paid for gifting all goals to the Americans whom you can clearly see were grateful for that.

“We without doubt shot ourselves in the foot by the way we played. We had our fair share of chances which we wasted and although we thought the referee ignored a foul on Florence Dadson which could have given us a penalty earlier in the game, we just shot ourselves in the foot.”

Coach Sackey is, however, pleased with the work rate of his players despite the huge loss.

“I am still very proud of my players. They did their best throughout under the circumstances.”

The Princesses next game is against Germany on Thursday in Hiroshima in a must win encounter to progress to the next stage.
