Ghana debutant Emmanuel Frimpong has played down fears that he could abandon the Black Stars if he gains international popularity by playing for the country.

The 21-year-old is expected to make his debut for Ghana on Sunday when they take on Sudan in a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Kumasi.

This comes after the ex-England youth international obtained a nationality switch in order to play for Ghana, the country of his parents.

But some Ghanaians are worried that he could follow in the footsteps of AC Milan midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng, who quit the Black Stars few months after playing in the World Cup when the Black Stars earned him a bumper cash move to the Italian giants.

Boateng switched nationality as a time when he career was going no where with English side Portsmouth which has made Ghanaians uneasy over players who switch nationality.

The central midfielder has now assured Ghanaians that he is in for the long haul with rising fears he might abandon the team midstream.

“I’m here to stay with the Black Stars team and form an integral part of the Black Stars team for many many years to come,” he said.

“So I’m ready to give my all and seize this opportunity if I’m selected by the technical team, but that will entirely depend on my performance in training.

“I am not ready just for one game but to be part of the team in future assignments and I’m ready to serve my nation and my country of birth,” he assured.

Frimpong joins Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Adam Kwarasey to have obtained approval from FIFA to feature for Ghana haven played at youth level for European national sides.
