Black Stars coach Avram Grant has disclosed that he never convinced prodigal goalie Adam Kwarasey to make a comeback saying 'I do not convince players to play for Ghana.'

The Portland Timbers shot-stopper clashed with the Black Stars goalkeepers' trainer, Nassam Yakubu, publicly questioning his competence and fairness after he was excluded from the starting line up against starting line-up against Germany and Portugal during the 2014 World Cup

The former Stromsgodset shot stopper turned down numerous invitations handed him by stand-in coach Maxwell Konadu during the Afcon 2015 qualifiers and did same when Avram Grant assumed post as the coach of the Black Stars.

Speaking to the media at the Conference Hall of the Accra Sports Satdium, Avram Grant noted that he never convinced the Portland Timbers goalie to make a comeback, rather the player’s performance convinced him.

“I never convince any player to join the Black Stars. No player is bigger than the Black Stars. The Black Stars is rather bigger than all the players,” Grant said.

“Every player must be proud to play for the Black Stars and not the other way round.”

I don’t convince players to play for the national team. Their performances convince me and I invite them. If they won’t come, that is their business,” he added.

Kwarasey is expected to return to his number one position ahead of the crucial game against the Mambas of Mozambique on Thursday at the Accra sports Stadium.
