Herbert Mensah To Be Dragged To Court

KOTOKO FANS CALL FOR PROBITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

FORMER Asante Kotoko Chief Executive, Herbert Mensah, is on the verge of being dragged to court by Kotoko supporters to account for some monies his administration collected from them. The monies were collected in connection with the membership drive launched by Herbert Mensah’s management, as well as the ‘Yi bi ma’ contributions the fans made during his four-year tenure.

Mr. Abdul Umar, the Ashanti Regional Circles Public Relations Officer, who disclosed this to the Graphic Sports yesterday said lately the supporters have been putting unbearable pressure on the Circles Council to get Herbert Mensah to tell them what he did with their monies or face the music. He said 52,000 supporters paid ?24,000.00 each in respect of the membership drive in the first year of Herbert Mensah’s administration and were issued with receipts to cover the payments.

Payments made by the 52,000 supporters amounted to ?1,248,000,000 (?1.248billion).Mr. Umar also disclosed that supporters elsewhere made similar payments but could not tell off-hand how much that amounted to. He explained that the supporters were very forthcoming with their payments and ‘yi bi ma’ contributions because Herbert Mensah told them that the monies would be used to buy a bus, as well as put up an office and a club house for Kotoko.“However, after four years in office, none of these promises was fulfilled, so it is very necessary to demand accountability from Herbert Mensah since he is no longer with Kotoko,” the Ashanti Regional Circles PRO said.

Information pieced together from other sources in Kumasi said efforts are being made to collate how much money the Herbert Mensah administration collected nationwide as far as the membership drive is concerned. Some supporters are of the view that it would be difficult to determine how much was realised from the ‘Yi bi ma’ contributions because no receipts were issued, and the boxes containing the monies were taken to God knows where
