Hearts fans clamour for Fawaz Zowk

The search for a new Chief Executive to take over the vacant position at Accra Hearts of Oak to succeed Mr. Tommy Okine, now the Gbese Mantse continues to dominate all major football discussions across the length and breadth of the country. After the Board of Directors of the club formed a five-member committee comprising of Messrs. Commodore Mensah, Harry Zakkour, Togbe Afede, Prof. Kumado and Alhaji Issaka to choose a substantive Chief Executive, the likes of Mr. Kurt Okraku, the current communications guru of the club together with Mr. Neil Armstrong Mortagbe have put in their applications to be given the chance to assume the hot seat.

But one name making the rounds and which has gained prominence among the Phobian front of late is that of Fawaz Zowk of Koala Shopping Centre fame. Most fans this paper talked to are of the opinion that Fawaz has been around for quite sometime and has gone through the mill at Accra Hearts of Oak and therefore must be given the mandate to charter a new course for the club. Most listeners who contribute to the various talk shows on the airwaves continue to clamour for Fawaz whom they believe is quite knowledgeable in Hearts matters and is very principled as well as approachable to the fans.

When 90 Minutes contacted Fawaz Zowk on whether he has any intention of being the new Hearts CEO as some of the fans are clamouring, he said it will be an honour to lead Hearts but certain conditions will have to be met. “I won’t lobby for the Hearts job but if the supporters and people at the helm think I’m the right person for the job and if my health permits me, then I will humbly consider it”. He said the time has come for people with the requisite knowledge and wherewithal to lead the club and bring some transparency to the club and not pay lip service to the numerous problems confronting the club. “If I’m given the job I won’t be a Father Christmas and acquiesce to the selfish interests of certain personalities of the club as the time has come for the proper things to be done in Hearts.”

He said it’s quite unfortunate that due to his frankness, some certain elements in the club doesn’t see eye to eye with him but that “won’t deter him from speaking his mind” on what is right for the club to restore the pride of the great Hearts of Oak tradition. Fawaz, who has almost 21 years of loyal, unadulterated service to the Hearts tradition truly belongs to the supporters who nominated him to be a director of the club and together with Alhaji Suleiman Braimah, aka “Alhaji Hearts” is one of the longest serving members of the club. Fawaz also said he wouldn’t mind serving on an interim body to steer the affairs of the club in the event that the five member team fail to settle on a substantive CEO saying “If the proper thins are done, I ‘m always ready to serve Hearts”.
