Ghana legend Malik Jabir believes Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have the quality to win back the premier league titles they have lost to Aduana and Chelsea of Berekum the last two seasons.

Malik Jabir led Kotoko as stop gap coach in the two club’s 1-1 draw in Sunday’s Super 2 first leg tie at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

The ex-Kotoko star who inspired the side to African cup glory in 1983 under coach Ibrahim Sunday told SuperSport.com he sees an improved Hearts and Kotoko team for the new season.

“The last two seasons have been tough for the two great clubs but definitely, this season should tell a better story,” he said.

“Kotoko’s team has been together for long but Hearts has also done well with their recruitments and the young players so they should be able to beat any team”.

Chelsea of Berekum and Aduana Stars from the Brong Ahafo region in Ghana have dominated the league, ending Hearts and Kotoko’s 13 year duopoly. But Jabir who has also previously coached the Kotoko team is confident the new season which opens on October 9 could be for the two clubs once again.

“Hearts and Kotoko have been wounded and if you look at all the leagues in the world, the big clubs dominate and these two giants will return to their best”.

Hearts of Oak will be hoping to equal Kotoko’s 21 league title record with victory in the coming season. The Accra giants have 20 titles.
