Hearts, Olympic to climax World Cup campaign launch

Accra, April 29, GNA - Defending Premier League champions, Accra Hearts of Oak will engage city rivals Great Olympics in a special charity match on Monday, May 3, at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra. The one-off match is to climax the launch of the national campaign for Ghana's participation in the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup billed for the same venue.

Information gathered by GNA Sports from the World Cup Committee indicates that the Accra-derby will be the highlight of the launch of the campaign to be performed Vice President John Dramani Mahama. The organizers had initially considered an international friendly between Ghana and either Nigeria or Togo, but the inability of the two countries to respond to the request due to technical reasons necessitated the selection of the local derby.

The game will be preceded by a float through the principal streets of Accra from 10am, with the grand launch at the national stadium few hours later.

After the game, there will be a jamboree at the Osu Oxford Street to officially wrap up the launch.

The launch is also to enhance public awareness on the Black Stars participation at her second successive World Cup appearance and to raise the needed funds to support the team to chalk the needed success. The event is being organized by the World Cup Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Expected to spice up the program are musicians and entertainers. Officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Ministry of Youth and Sports to be led by the Minister Ms Akua Sena Dansua and the National Sports Council among others are expected to attend the occasion.
