Hayford dares AshantiGold to pay him off and sack him

Bashir Hayford has told AshantiGold to pay him off and sack him if they feel he is not suitable for the club again.

The former Kotoko boss delivered the Ghana Premier League title after 19 years of failure but he has started his title defence poorly. They have already been knocked out of the FA Cup and the CAF champions league with pressure mouting on Hayford.

But he refuses to take the fall alone and has told 3FM that morale the in the side has dipped because players are owed salaries. And he says he is more than willing to leave if the club feels he is the problem.

He said:

“If they want me out today or tomorrow, they should just give me my money and off I go because what brought me here is that they wanted to pick up the league title because for 19 years they had never lifted the trophy so I should come and do it for them and I have done it. So if after all of that, this is the reward I get then I have nothing to do than to give it to God. Very soon people will know the truth. I am concentrating at the moment to try to lift the team from where they are at the moment.”

Hayford has been accused of rat-racing witth his players but swats it aside and is adamant he is simply focussing on his job at the moment.

“Normally when these thing happen and things are not going well, supporters will naturally react. But when they go overboard to the extent of creating allegations, I think that one will not do well for us. For me, I have told them that there’s a thin line between agitating for good performance and insulting the coach. My job is that I have to make sure that the team performs so my concentration is on how quickly I can psyche the boys so that we continue with the competition. I have met with management. I have explained everything to them. The management is fully aware of what is happening and so if the fans are taking it differently and calling me names, it’s up to them,” he added.

Hayford’s next game in charge of AshantiGold on Wednesday will be at home to New Edubiase.
