Gyandu Park to re-open soon

The Sekondi Gyandu Park, which was closed down on 7 June this year, due serious constructional defects would be re-opened before 22 July.

This would enable the local team Sekondi Hasaacas to resume honouring their matches on home ground during the second round of the premier league, which begins on 21 July.

Mr Philip K. Nkrumah, Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Sports on Monday that constructional work has already started on the 142 feet wall of the park, which collapsed after a torrential rainfall about a fortnight ago. He said the Works Department of the Assembly, has been engaged to re-build the broken wall.

Nana Yaw Boateng, SAEMA engineer, said the re-building of the walls around the park, would be done in phases, to enable Sekondi Hasaacas to continually use the park for its league matches and other sporting activities in the region. He added that a proposed multi-purpose sports stadium complex, would soon begin and it is expected to host football, tennis, basketball and other sporting activities, while seating about 20,000 spectators.
