Former Black Stars striker Kwame Ayew believes the captain Asamoah Gyan's retirement from the senior national team is not predictive.

At age 30, the former Sunderland and Udinese attacker is hoping to be fit enough to represent Ghana at the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and Russia 2018 World Cup after scoring 48 goals in 93 appearances for the Black Stars since his debut against Somalia on November 9th, 2003.

“I don’t know about Asamoah Gyan’s retirement because all players are different. I still believe he can play for some years because he met me in the Black Stars.

"He is the captain now and I fully support him to survive on the pitch for some time,” Ayew told Starr Sports.

Last season, Gyan, who is chasing his fourth World Cup appearance, struggled with injuries at his Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG.
