Grant watches defender Rahman in Chelsea debut

Ghana coach Avram Grant travelled to London on Wednesday and watched his defender Baba Rahman make his debut for English side Chelsea in their emphatic Champions League victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in London on Wednesday.

The Israeli trainer, who is a former coach of the English champions, was at the Stamford Bridge as the left-back made his debut for the English champions in their emphatic victory in their opening group match.

Grant, who recommended the Ghanaian player to Chelsea to sign him from German side Augsburg last month, was at the stadium in London to monitor the player for national team purposes.

The 21-year-old was named in the Blues’ starting line-up for the first time since joining the English club last month and he did not disappoint.

Baba got his chance as promised by manager Jose Mourinho, who was desperate to return his under-firing side back to winning ways in the match at Stamford Bridge.

And the Ghanaian excelled in front of his national team coach as Chelsea coasted to a 4-0 victory.

Rahman joined Chelsea in a reported £22m move from German club Augsburg in August.

The Ghanaian was however not been fielded – not even as a substitute – since his big money move until Wednesday.

The former Greuther Furth man now got his chance to start for the English champions in his favourite left-back position.

Baba Rahman’s emergence in Chelsea’s starting line-up meant Cesar Azpilicueta.
