Goldfields salutes Black Stars

Accra, June 23, GNA - Goldfields Ghana, headline sponsors of the Black Stars have sent their salutations to the team for making a strong start to the 2010 African Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers. Ghana recaptured the top spot of Group 5 on superior goals difference over Libya in the African zone qualifiers on Sunday after beating Gabon 2-0 at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra.

Johan Botha, Managing Director of Goldfields Ghana Limited said in a statement copied to the GNA Sports that his outfit was convinced the good start by the Stars would produce another qualification to the next 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

He said that "We witnessed a splendid performance of the Stars and I doff my hat to them." The Director of Corporate Affairs of Gold Fields Limited, Dr Tony Aubynn noted that it is gratifying that "the Stars delivered and continue to live the dream of playing in Angola and South Africa in 2010."

The headline sponsors injected 500,000 dollars towards the team's campaign in a package aimed at enhancing their three-year sponsorship package of 3.7 million dollars. 23 June 08
