Gold Stars holds Feyenoord

Accra, Dec 7, GNA - Gomoa Fetteh based Feyenoord on Saturday dropped two vital points when they were held to a one all drawn game by Bibiani Gold Stars, when the two clashed in the last game of the Sub-Middle League at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Feyenoord, who had won their first two games by over-running their opponents met their match in the Western Regional lads who also have six points in their two previous games against Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs and Kumasi Cornerstones.

The two, who by their results qualify from their group to participate in the National Middle League, which kick-starts on Wednesday, sold out an impressive game to the partisan supporters present.

Feyenoord's Danlidi Sheriff opened scoring in the third minutes when he connected home a corner kick, just a minute after the team's leading striker Nafiu Abdul Iddrissu had missed the clearest chance of the afternoon.

Gold Stars recovered from the initial scare and gradually warmed themselves into the game and mounted a series of onslaughts in the last quarter of their opponents area but poor finishing kept the Fetteh boys lead intact.

Unable to cancel the deficit, the Stars resumed the second half on a crunchy note and as if by specific instruction whacked their much younger opponents on every move.

This forced the Feyenoord technical bench to effect two quick changes that saw Mohammed Abubarker coming on for Sheriff and Isaac Borketey Bortey for Samuel Asante.

The changes rather affected Feyenoord, who conceded the midfield battle to Gold Stars who capitalised on that to level up through Abubarkar Ibrahim in the 71st minute when he connected home a corner kick.

The goal brought up the best in Feyenoord, who pinned their opponents in their half consistently, but as if destined to draw, wasted all the chances they created.
